The rotary switch sets the work mode, basically, which antenna you want for transmission and which for reception.<br \/>\nThen comes the cool part, that automatically switches to transmission antenna when you press the PTT, and to reception when paused.<br \/>\nThis is the \u201cAutomatic\u201d feature.<br \/>\nObviously, the command is coming from the transceiver. All the modern transceivers have a connector on the back, called CAT\/Linear, of which one of the pins is shorted to the ground when in transmission. So when Ground is detected on the electric diagram input, the relay is activated.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/i.pinimg.com\/originals\/d2\/1f\/d1\/d21fd157224dad657cdf30152ed91854.jpg?ssl=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/i.pinimg.com\/originals\/d2\/1f\/d1\/d21fd157224dad657cdf30152ed91854.jpg?resize=359%2C275&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"359\" height=\"275\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nThis coaxial relay has a set of contacts which I used as a feedback to see which antenna is selected.<br \/>\n<img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/i.pinimg.com\/originals\/6a\/ac\/4d\/6aac4dc8c97f4d950a990889e70a4eae.jpg?resize=515%2C294&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"515\" height=\"294\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This may seem over-complicated, but let me give you some examples of how this switch helps you, when working on satellites.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>The Space Station\u2019s voice repeater:<br \/>\n&#8211; uplink frequency 145.990 MHz<br \/>\n&#8211; downlink frequency 437.800 MHz<\/li>\n<li>AO-91 (A.K.A.
